Mechanical Engineer Powerpack (m/f/d)

Key Responsibilities

HyImpulse is looking for an experienced engineer to oversee the mechanical design and development activities for what we call Powerpack. These are the key liquid propulsion elements of our state of the art hybrid propulsion system. The successful candidate will sit at the heart of a cross-functional team driving our hardware efforts from a mechanical design perspective. This is a versatile role best suited for someone with broad experience from a machine design background. 
 
Dependent on the individual candidate’s skill, qualifications and experience, senior mechanical engineers are also encouraged to apply. 
  • Support the design and development of HITs powerpack hardware with a focus on high performance turbomachinery components
  • Own design packages for R&D and flight hardware
  • Own hardware management of liquid propulsion, turbomachinery and fluid system components. 
  • Drive and manage the manufacturing and assembly efforts for critical components and assemblies. 
  • Support/manage supply chains of complex hardware for both internal and external manufacture

Basic Qualification

  • B. Sc / B. Eng in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • >4 years of experience in a hands-on role, working on design and development of complex machinery (aerospace, energy, or other industry with high performance/high reliability equipment)
  • Fluent oral and written English (German language skills are a huge plus)

Desired Experience

The successful candidate will tick most (not all) of the following boxes:
  • Strong mechanical design fundamentals with a focus on design for manufacture and an eye for details
  • Experience with CAD and PLM (NX/Teamcenter preferred)
  • Experience with GD&T and technical drawings
  • Experience with mechanical design of process heavy machine components
  • Experience with the design of custom tooling for assembly
  • Experience working with highly loaded metallic components, the required calculations (hand calculations as well as static and dynamic FEA)
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques: additive manufacture, laser-welding, hard machining and grinding, gear cutting, etc.
  • Experience with material science, heat treatment and coating techniques of metallic components
  • Hands on experience with manufacturing, assembly and working with an engineering supply chain.

This role will be based in Glasgow, Scotland and at occasionally there may be requirements to travel to our facilities in Neuenstadt am Kocher, Germany or our test and launch facilities in Shetland.
