Motor Production Engineer (m/f/d)

Neuenstadt
Full-time
Permanent employee

Key Responsibilities

Design-to-Production Handover
  • Own the end-to-end job order handover process, receiving released design packages from the design office and translating them into fully prepared production work orders
  • Review incoming drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), tolerances, and material specifications for completeness, producibility, and compliance with production standards before release to the shop floor
  • Identify and resolve design-for-manufacture (DFM) issues early, raising formal queries or concessions with design engineers and tracking them to resolution
  • Maintain a live register of open job orders, tracking status, blockers, and critical path items across the production schedule
  • Facilitate structured design review and production readiness review (PRR) meetings, ensuring all disciplines are aligned before manufacture commences
Production Coordination & Technical Support
  • Act as the primary on-the-floor technical authority for mechanics and technicians, providing real-time guidance on assembly methods, tooling, and inspection requirements
  • Develop, review, and maintain manufacturing process instructions (MPIs), assembly procedures, and traveller documents to the required standard
  • Coordinate closely with procurement and stores to ensure materials, bought-in components, and sub-assemblies are available and certified ahead of production start dates
  • Manage the production of motor sub-assemblies including fuel grain handling, oxidiser system integration, nozzle assembly, and structural casing work, ensuring each stage meets defined acceptance criteria
  • Support the development and maintenance of tooling, jigs, and fixtures required for accurate and repeatable motor assembly
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all production activities are carried out in accordance with applicable quality management procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements pertaining to energetic materials and pressurised systems
  • Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) arising during production: root cause investigation, corrective action ownership, and closure verification
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to support in-process inspection and final acceptance testing of completed motor assemblies and sub assemblies
  • Maintain meticulous batch records, material traceability documentation, and configuration control throughout the production lifecycle
Continuous Improvement & Process Development
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase production efficiency, reduce cycle time, and improve first-pass yield without compromising safety or quality standards
  • Contribute to lessons-learned reviews following each production campaign, capturing insights that feed back into design improvements and updated production procedures
  • Support the scaling of production capacity as the programme matures, including definition of new workstation layouts, equipment procurement, and operator training

Basic Qualification

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (BEng minimum; MEng or MSc preferred)
  • Demonstrable experience (typically 3–7 years) in a production, manufacturing, or systems integration engineering role within aerospace, defence, or a similarly regulated precision engineering environment
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing tolerancing standards.
  • Practical experience managing job orders or work packages from design release through to production sign-off
  • Experience reading and interpreting BOMs, assembly sequences, and process documentation in a multi-disciplinary production environment

Desired Experience

  • Direct experience with rocket motor or propulsion system manufacture, including familiarity with solid or hybrid propellant systems, combustion chambers, or nozzle assemblies
  • Exposure to pressurised systems, pyrotechnic or energetic material handling, or hazardous area working practices
  • Experience using PLM or ERP systems (e.g. Windchill, ENOVIA, SAP) for configuration control and production order management
  • Hands-on machining, fabrication, or assembly skills — capable of reading a situation on the shop floor and making sound practical judgements
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma)
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001) and associated documentation practices including NCRs, FAIs, and travellers

Benefits

  • An exciting work environment encompassing the development, construction, and operation of hybrid rockets
  • Flexible working time (flextime), 30 days of holiday
  • Hybrid working / Homeoffice / mobile working
  • Christmas bonus
  • VISA credit card with €50 credit per month which can be used for retail purchases
  • Bike-Leasing
